In RING mode, it rings loudly when time is up but the light stays off; in FLASH mode, the light flashes when time is up but there is NO sound at all. If your timer "flashes without ringing" or "rings without flashing," that's exactly how it's designed to work — not a defect. TIP: Choose FLASH mode for quiet places like libraries, classrooms, and offices — everyone around stays undisturbed; choose RING mode for busy, noisy spots like kitchens where a beep might be missed. Simply press the round button on the LEFT side of the timer to switch modes — your last-used setting saves automatically.
